Road safety has received a boost in Clyde, with work to improve street
lighting at the intersection of South Gippsland Highway with
Clyde-Fiveways Road and Fisheries Road now completed, a spokesperson for
Jude Perera MP, State Member for Cranbourne District announced today.
"The Brumby Government is taking action to improve Victoria's road network
and this upgrade will provide important safety benefits for our local
community," The Spokes person said.
"The $625,000 project will improve safety for drivers entering and leaving
the South Gippsland Highway by providing improved lighting at the
intersection.
"Since 2002, there have been 10 casualty crashes at this intersection,
with four occurring when it is dark.
"Fifteen overhead lights have now been installed to improve visibility at
the intersection and reduce the risk of night time crashes."
The spokesperson said the South Gippsland Highway is a key link in
Victoria's road network, carrying a high volume of commuter, freight and
tourist traffic between suburbs surrounding Melbourne, Western Port and
Bass Strait.
"The completion of this project highlights the State Government's
commitment to improving the safety and efficiency of the road network for
all users.
"Projects like these are also vital to the local community, and it's
important that the needs of the local community are met."
"This project was funded under the Safer Road Infrastructure Program to
which the Brumby Government has committed $650 million over the next 10
years," The spokesperson said.
