Skye Cricket Club and the Carrum United Soccer Club will benefit from a
$60,000 Brumby Labor Government boost for new and improved community
facilities at Skye Recreation Reserve.
Sports Minister James Merlino joined Member for Cranbourne Jude Perera MP
to make the funding announcement towards a $200,000 upgrade of the
ground's existing pavilion.
"The Brumby Labor Government understands that supporting our unique
sporting culture and our local clubs is crucial to building stronger and
more liveable communities," Mr Merlino said.
"Grassroots sport is thriving in Victoria, but many local clubs with a
real passion for their sport have outdated facilities and their resources
and equipment are the worse for wear.
"Once built, the new and improved pavilion at Skye Recreation Reserve
would include new change rooms, amenities and better access for people
with a disability.
"These new features will cater for the growing number of spectators,
participants and club members using this fantastic facility, and also
encourage further involvement in sport and recreation across all sections
of the community.
"Local community sport facilities like these are places where people -
both kids and adults - can get more active, involved and develop a sense
of belonging through community sport and recreation."
Brumby Labor Government funding for the project comes from the recent
round of the Community Facility Funding Program, which is helping to
provide high-quality, accessible community sport and recreation facilities
across the state.
Mr Merlino said he was impressed with the efforts of the Frankston City
Council, the Skye Cricket Club and the Carrum United Soccer Club in
getting this project off the ground and praised the strong campaigning by
Mr Perera for funding for the vital project.
"For some time, club members and the Skye community have been working
closely with me to ensure the pavilion here at the Reserve remains a
community asset for years to come," Mr Perera said.
"I'd like to acknowledge the fantastic contribution made by both the Skye
Cricket Club and Carrum United Soccer Club and overall the Skye Community.
"This tremendous effort shows what can be achieved when the Brumby Labor
Government, local councils, and local clubs work together to benefit the
local community."
