Local football (soccer) clubs can apply for up to $100,000 to upgrade
existing or build new soccer facilities to meet the growing demand for
soccer in our local area, the Member for Cranbourne District, Jude Perera
MP said.
The money is available from the Brumby Government's $5.7 million
Strengthening the World Game program.
"The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to ensure all Victorian
communities have the sporting and recreation facilities to enjoy healthy
and active lives," Mr Perera said.
"Victorian soccer clubs have seen record growth in their code and the
Strengthening the World Game program will help those clubs keep their
players on the field"
Mr Perera said grants would be made available through local councils to
maximise the capacity of local clubs to cater for growing participation in
soccer.
"Clubs should be talking to, and working with, their local council now to
develop project proposals," Mr Perera said.
"Projects could include change rooms for players and referees of both
genders, installing floodlighting and developing or upgrading pitches," He
said.
Mr Perera said grants from the Strengthening the World Game program would
be made twice yearly, with the first applications being assessed later
this year.
Mr Perera said the $5.7 million for the Strengthening the World Game
program was in addition to other Victorian Government support for
community sporting facilities.
