Local homes are doing their bit to meet Target 155 and save money by installing water saving household products according to the latest figures.
Member for Cranbourne District, Jude Perera MP, said many local residents had benefited from rebates under the Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme.
The Brumby Government's Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate Scheme encourages eligible Victorian households to claim rebates for purchasing water saving products such as rainwater tanks, greywater systems, dual flush toilets, water efficient showerheads and garden products.
Mr Perera congratulated local residents on their enthusiastic approach to water saving.
"By choosing to install water efficient products in and around the home, many residents are doing their bit to conserve water and help meet Target 155.
"Households in our local area are clearly leading the way when it comes to saving water through installing water efficient home devices."
Mr Perera said installing water efficient products would help households meet the State Government's Target 155 campaign which aims to reduce Melbourne's average residential consumption to less than 155 litres per person, per day.
"Melbournians are doing a great job of staying below Target 155 and by installing water efficient household products we are making it easier to achieve the target."

Victorians have benefited from more than 250,000 rebates since the scheme was introduced leading to savings of more than 2.5 billion litres of water every year.

A household rainwater tank collects rainwater for use inside or outside your home.
$150 for a tank 600 litres or greater.
Large rainwater tank
$1000 for a tank 4000+ litres connected to toilet and laundry
$900 for a tank 4000+ litres connected to toilet or laundry
$500 for tank 2000-3999 litres connected to toilet and/or laundry
Greywater systems

A greywater permanent tank system recycles waste water from laundries and bathrooms for use on the garden or in the toilet.
Dual flush toilet $50
A dual flush toilet uses 3 litres of water on a half flush, 6 litres on a full flush or less.
Three-star water efficient showerhead $10 or $20
A water efficient showerhead can use 30% less water than a normal showerhead and can be fitted to most showers. Up to two showerhead rebates are available per property.
$10 - rebate per showerhead costing between $30 and $100
$20 - rebate per showerhead costing more than $100
Nb. A free water efficient showerhead can also be obtained by through an exchange program with your local water company.
Water conservation home audits $50
A service to assess where a household could save water, and recommend products and methods that would help to do this.

Includes products such as mulch (includes pebbles or other inorganic materials which are used as mulch), flow control valves, wetting/moisture agent, compost or mulch bin, soil moisture & rain sensors, garden tap timers, drip watering system or weep hoses, trigger nozzles, temporary greywater diverters, rainwater diverters, waterless car cleaning products, shower timers and toilet flush interrupter devices. One basket offer rebate is available per eligible customer each year.
