Road Safety Improvement Works Start On Ballarto Road In Skye

  • Road safety improvements on Ballarto Road, Skye will start next week, State Member for Cranbourne District, Jude Perera MP announced today.

  • "The Brumby Government is taking action to improve Victoria's road network and this upgrade will provide important safety benefits for our local community," Mr Perera MP said.

  • "The $201,000 works outside Skye Primary School include the installation of a left turn deceleration lane.

  • "This will allow drivers heading east on Ballarto Road to access the western driveway into Skye Primary School, which will increase safety for the many parents entering the school each morning and afternoon.

  • "The addition of the new lane will allow drivers to move off the main roadway as they slow down to turn left into the school. This will reduce the likelihood of rear end crashes at this site.

  • "I'm pleased to say that the works will be carried out over the school holidays to minimise any disruption to the school."

  • "Projects such as this one are vital for local communities, especially when it is aimed at increasing safety for school children.

  • "The State Government has listened to concerns from the school and general community, and has taken action to improve road safety at this site.

  • "I would like to thank the school, local community and the council, who have been active in voicing their concerns and support for this project," Mr Perera said.

  • "We understand that people are concerned about safety on Victorian roads, that's why the Brumby Government is taking action to improve community safety and drive down the road toll," Mr Perera said.

  • Work is expected to be completed by the end of January 2010.
