Brumby Government Delivers Young Parents in Frankston North Pathways into
Employment
Jude Perera, Member for Cranbourne today congratulated ten young parents
who have graduated from the Connectus component of the Connecting Young
Parents Program in Frankston North.
"I am really pleased about the success of this program because it
re-connects young parents, who have left school early to have a family. It
provides them with pathways into education, training or employment.
"This is important for Frankston where every effort is being made to
improve our levels of workforce participation.
"Connectus is a partnership between the Department of Innovation, Industry
and Regional Development, the Department of Planning and Community
Development, Link Employment and Community Renewal.
"And Community Renewal is part of A Fairer Victoria, the Victorian
Government's $1.6 billion plan to address disadvantage and create
opportunity. "
"And I'm happy to say that the Brumby Labor Government has allocated a
further $630,000.00 over three years in the recent State Budget to build
on the work we have already done right here in making Frankston North a
better place to live. Over $1mill has been invested in Frankston North
over the last two and a bit years through the Brumby Governments -
Frankston North Community Renewal Project."
"The ten parents who graduated today have taken the first step towards a
brighter future for themselves and their children."
"They have taken part in team building activities and have been trained to
set goals. They have learned to write resumes and how to speak in public -
which is never an easy task! "
"And now they will be given support to transform that training into
long-term employment."
"This is the beginning of a fantastic journey for these young parents
which will see them re-enter training or employment in a field that
matches their abilities and interests", Mr Perera said.
"I congratulate them all on a job well done and wish them many happy years
of satisfying and productive employment. "
